Terms and conditions

Eligibility requirements

To qualify, you must:

  • Be an Xcel Energy residential electric customer living in New Mexico
    • Natural-gas-only residential customers are not eligible.
  • Be the owner of the refrigerator or freezer being recycled
  • Recycle no more than four working units per household, per program year

Unit requirements for rebate:

  • Refrigerators and freezers must have been manufactured in 2021 or earlier to be eligible.
  • Refrigerator or freezer must be between 10 and 30 cubic feet. Mini-fridges typically do not meet this capacity requirement to be eligible for participation.
  • Appliance must be in working order (e.g., cooling and/or freezing and the ability to make ice) and clean when inspected at the time of pick up.
  • Primary (kitchen) and secondary (garage/basement/other) refrigerators or freezers are accepted; must have been operating in your home for at least two months.
  • Elevator access is required if the refrigerator or freezer unit is located above a second floor.
  • Window/room AC units can be taken if a driver is scheduled to pick up a refrigerator or freezer. Please note: There are no incentives for window/room AC units.

Pickup requirements

For outdoor pickups: please do not put appliance(s) out until 12-24 hours before your pick-up time.

  • *Note that we are not liable if your appliance is picked up early by a third-party. If you are worried that your appliance was stolen, please contact your local law enforcement.
  • Ensure there is a clear path to the appliance.
  • Check your appliance to make sure it is empty and free of food or mold.
  • Window/room AC units can be taken if a driver is scheduled to pick up a refrigerator or freezer. Please note: There are no rebate incentives for window/room AC units.
  • We reserve the right to decline pickup for any appliance whose removal will put our team, the customer or the home at risk.
  • Appliance is located in one of the approved outdoor locations.
